I served on 20 Squadron (Hunters) at RAF Tengah from 1969 until it disbanded in 1970. I was then posted to the Engine Bay working on Griffon Engines (205 Squadron Shackletons) at RAF Changi.

I was on 20 squadron at Tengah from August 1965 until November, before I was transferred to the Whirlwinds at Kuching. I was on the sqn when it celebrated its 50th Anniversary and I did a 2 week stint at the Forward Element at Labuan in October 1965.

I was at Tengah when 20 Sqn disbanded.  I seem to remember the CO was a Sqn Ldr Strong who was re-invented as Major Strong in the Singapore Armed Forces. I was on 74 Sqn which rattled on for another year at Tengah before disbanding in 1971 when we withdrew from Singapore

Was on 20 sqn. during it's detachment to Chiengmai, North Thailand from RAF Tengah in May, 1962 along with Earl "Yorky" Richards, Joe Childs, Rick Oddie, Sid Gibbs - all armourers.

I remember Yorkie Richards. On the way back to Tengah i am sure you stopped off at some plush hotel in Bangkok and were invited to have a meal there at RAF expense. Yorkie told the story that you all except him ordered reasonable meals whereas he went for broke and ordered a massive 'T' bone steak. Would this be right?

I spent about 3 weeks on 20 Sqn as a JT armourer helping out due to the numbers away at Chieng Mai, much to the chagrin of a Cpl Armourer on 20 Sqn called Stephens. He happened to have been brought up in the next street to me in Goole and so I knew his christian name which he was keeping quiet. Can't blame him it was Cedric.

I actually spent most of that three weeks playing darts in the armourers hut.

Yep, I was on 20 for most of my two and half years and back and forward between Labuan and Tengah as  needed to replace the team up there.

I served on 20 Sqdn. from 1961-1963. We were detached to Korat Thailand then later to Cheng Mai.

Wally, welcome to the forumsmile

Were you in Thailand at the time when Laos were threatening Communist infiltration. Do I detect a Javelin tailplane there with a Firestreak missile aboard?
